Bengaluru: Senior Congress leaders including former CM Siddaramaiah, KPCC president DK Shivakumar, former DCM Dr G Parameshwar, Mallikharjun Kharge and others condoled the death of Congress veteran leader Ahmed Patel.
They recalled his contribution towards the strengthening of the party in Karnataka.
According to the party insiders, in 2013, Patel played a major role in bringing party to power in the state by making the then CM BS Yediyurappa to split the BJP.
Patel also had a say in picking Siddaramaiah as the CM of the state.
It can be recalled that it is Patel who managed to convince Siddaramaiah to quit the JDS and join the Congress to strengthen the party in the state.
According to the Congress sources, no leader may attend the funeral of Patel as it is performed as per the Covid 19 guidelines. Leaders are planning a condolence meeting in the party office today.
