Bengaluru: Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar on Monday April 4 said he will consult the State Covid – 19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and the Chief Minister on lifting the rule requiring the mandatory wearing of masks in public places.

He informed that though there is no official order on this, 90 per cent of the population does not wear masks. There are no fines imposed by the government for not wearing masks. It’s an order that hasn’t been made public yet.

“Before making any announcement, I will discuss with the TAC and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai,” he said.

Dr. C. N. Manjunath, a member of the Clinical Expert Committee, stated that while the fourth wave was expected to impact the country in July-August, there was no clarity on the disease’s severity. “Even though 90 per cent of the population has been vaccinated, one must remain vigilant. Surveillance and caution have been suggested by the expert committee. Genome sequencing is essential for detecting new variants,” he said.
