A 28-year-old man, Om Prakash, was assaulted with weapons in broad daylight at Somasandrapalya ground on Wednesday for distancing himself from a gang involved in criminal activities.

Prakash, a resident of Yashodamma Layout in Kudlu, avoided associating with Shivu alias Jopadi, Rahul, Ganesh, Giri, and Touhid after they began engaging in anti-social behavior and instilling fear in the community. He also advised his friend Harish to stay away from the group.

Suspecting Prakash of being a police informer, the gang cornered him around 3:30 PM. Shivu and Touhid dragged him to the ground, where other gang members attacked him with machetes, stones, and a beer bottle, leaving him with injuries to his elbow, leg, and head.

Prakash is recovering and is out of danger, according to police. A case has been registered at Bandepalya police station under BNS Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

Two suspects have been detained, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining attackers.
