Man caught secretly clicking photos of women by journalist; arrested

Bengaluru: A dramatic scene unfolded at Commercial Street in Bengaluru when a woman journalist caught a man clicking pictures of women on Saturday. The 40-year-old man was later arrested for the same.

Manoj Roy, who is said to belong from West Bengal, was living with his sister in Kamakshipalyaa. A salesman by profession in a private company, he was caught by a woman journalist while he attempted to click her picture in Commercial Street.

When the woman noticed the flashlight of the camera in his cell phone she chased after him and on catching hold of him asked him to show her photos.

He told her that he does not remember the phone password. Immediately, passersby and onlookers caught him and asked him to show the photo gallery they found around 25 pictures of women walking on Commercial Street.

It is learnt that the accused is allegedly under medication for depression.

He has been booked under Section 92 (Punishment of certain street offences and nuisance) of the Karnataka Police Act. He was later released on bail.

The victim soon after the incident posted on Facebook: “Having written countless stories about women being harassed in public places, it was a jolt to actually experience something like this myself; but I’ve learned that we cannot keep quiet.”

All the photographs were deleted and the police released him with a stern warning.
