A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly setting his partner and her parents on fire following a dispute over a scooter in Bengaluru, police said on Monday.
The accused has been identified as Panduranga, a resident of Nandini Layout, while the victim has been identified as Sumalatha (27), who works as a domestic help.
Dispute escalates into violent attack
According to police, the incident took place at Sumalatha’s residence in Tarabanahalli, where she lives with her parents.
Panduranga reportedly went to her house and demanded that she hand over her scooter. When Sumalatha refused, the situation escalated into a heated argument.
Her parents intervened in an attempt to calm the dispute. However, in a fit of rage, the accused allegedly poured petrol from a bottle on Sumalatha and her parents and set them on fire before fleeing the scene.
Victims undergoing treatment
Neighbours rushed to help after the incident and immediately shifted the injured victims to a nearby hospital.
Sumalatha and her parents sustained burn injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a medical facility. Police said their condition is being monitored by doctors.

Accused arrested, case registered
Police launched a search operation and arrested Panduranga on Sunday.
A case has been registered against him under sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Officials said further investigation is underway to gather more details about the incident.
Another incident reported
In a separate incident in Bengaluru, a 30-year-old woman was reportedly found strangled near farmland in Siddapura after stepping out of her home to retrieve her mobile phone that she had allegedly forgotten at her workplace.
Police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the case.
