Bengaluru: Tension gripped Uttarahalli in southwestern Bengaluru after a group of masked men allegedly attacked people at two locations with machetes on Sunday night, leaving four people injured.
The incident occurred around 9.30 pm near Arehalli Gate on Uttarahalli Main Road, within the limits of the Subramanyapura police station.
According to police, six men arrived on motorcycles and allegedly attacked people standing by the roadside before fleeing the area. The sudden incident caused panic among residents and others in the locality.
Attack began near Arehalli Gate
The assailants allegedly attacked people without any apparent provocation before escaping on motorcycles.
Police said the attackers first targeted two men, both identified as Kiran, who were standing by the roadside near Arehalli Gate.
After the initial attack, the group allegedly moved towards a fish shop in the Arehalli area, where they attacked people present at the premises.
Fish shop owner Balasubrahmanyam and two others, identified as Ravi and Raju, were among those injured in the incident.
Four injured in attacks
A senior police officer said four people were injured in the attacks.
Three of the injured were discharged after receiving medical treatment, while another person was undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The attacks at two locations within a short span led to concern among residents, with the assailants fleeing before police could intercept them.
Police probe motive and search for suspects
The reason behind the attack has not yet been ascertained, police said. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether the attacks were connected and what led to the assault.
Police teams are also making efforts to identify and trace the six suspected assailants who allegedly arrived on motorcycles and fled after the attacks.
The incident occurred in a busy residential area, and the sudden appearance of masked men carrying machetes reportedly created panic among people in the vicinity.
Investigators are expected to examine available CCTV footage from the area and gather information from witnesses as part of efforts to establish the sequence of events and identify those involved.
