The BBMP has imposed a 26-day ban on meat sales within a 13-kilometer radius of Yelahanka Air Force Station from January 23 to February 17, citing safety concerns ahead of Aero India 2025. This move, aimed at minimizing bird strikes during aircraft practice and the event from February 10-14, has drawn sharp criticism from the hospitality sector.
The Bangalore Hotels Association has labeled the decision “unscientific,” highlighting its potential to disrupt over 5,000 businesses, including eateries, pubs, and hotels. In a January 20 letter, they argued that many establishments already manage food waste to deter birds and noted the inconsistency of serving meat within the Air Force Station itself.
The ban’s timing could interfere with weddings, corporate events, and daily operations, causing financial strain. Violators face penalties under the BBMP Act 2020 and Indian Aircraft Rules 1937.
Aero India 2025, Asia’s largest airshow, is expected to showcase cutting-edge aerospace technology and attract global attention. Organized by the Defense Ministry, the event will feature business and public segments, with aerial performances being the highlight.
