Bengaluru: A minor girl who was abused and impregnated by a cab driver gave birth to a baby boy. The baby lost its life twenty days after birth.
The man accused is Santhosh Kumar.
The victim who lost her father at a tender age, was living with her mother and younger brother in Peenya police station limits. The accused also lived in the same building as the victim.
The victim’s mother who used to work in a cloth factory would be away in the day, and the girl and her brother used to return from school at 3.30 PM in on school days. They used to be alone at home till their mother returned. Taking advantage of the situation, Santhosh would lock up the boy in a room and sexually abuse the girl.
The accused would also threaten the victim that he would kill her mother and brother if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
One day, the girl complained of stomach pain and was taken to a hospital by her mother. The doctor, after examining her, revealed that she was pregnant, to the shock of her mother. On enquiring what happened, the victim disclosed everything.
The girl’s mother filed a complaint against Santhosh and the Peenya police booked the accused under IPC Section 376 (Rape) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was arrested the very next day.
Yeshwanthpura ACP Raviprasad investigated the case and submitted the charge sheet to the court.
Based on 15 witnesses, medical and DNA reports, the court found Santhosh guilty of the crime and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
