Bengaluru: Mahalakshmi Layout MLA K. Gopalaiah, along with Bengaluru West City Corporation (BWCC) Commissioner Rajendra K. V., conducted an inspection of ongoing civic works in the constituency and directed officials to complete necessary preparations ahead of the monsoon season.
During the inspection, the MLA reviewed various development works being carried out across the constituency and emphasised the need for timely completion of projects to prevent inconvenience to residents during the rainy season.
The officials were instructed to take up any pending or urgent works immediately and ensure that drainage systems, roads and other civic infrastructure remain functional during periods of heavy rainfall.
Focus on monsoon preparedness
Rajendra K. V. directed officials to remain alert and take preventive measures to minimise the risk of waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon.
He said that departments must coordinate closely to ensure that essential works such as clearing stormwater drains, repairing damaged roads and improving drainage infrastructure are completed in advance.
Authorities were also asked to identify vulnerable areas where flooding or water stagnation usually occurs and take corrective steps to address the problem before the onset of rains.
Officials noted that early preparation is essential in preventing disruptions to traffic and daily life during the monsoon season.
Maintenance of streetlights and parks
During the inspection, officials were also instructed to ensure proper maintenance of streetlights in the constituency.
Adequate street lighting is considered crucial for road safety, particularly during the monsoon when visibility can be affected by rain and cloudy conditions.
The MLA also asked civic authorities to focus on the upkeep of public parks and open spaces so that they remain clean, safe and accessible for residents.
Officials were directed to monitor the condition of parks regularly and carry out maintenance work wherever required.
Removal of dangerous trees
Another important issue discussed during the inspection was the removal of trees that pose a potential danger to the public.
Officials were asked to identify weak or damaged trees that could fall during strong winds or heavy rain and take immediate steps to remove them or trim branches where necessary.
Preventive action in this regard is considered essential to avoid accidents and damage to property during storms.
Addressing accident-prone locations
The inspection also focused on eliminating “black spots” — locations known for frequent traffic accidents.
Authorities were instructed to identify such areas within the constituency and implement measures such as improved signage, better lighting and road repairs to enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Officials said the aim is to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure smoother traffic movement across the locality.
Commitment to public safety and infrastructure
The inspection exercise is part of ongoing efforts by local authorities to strengthen civic infrastructure and ensure that residents face minimal disruption during the monsoon season.
