Bengaluru: At just 24 years old, Namrata S Hosmath has achieved the distinction of becoming Karnataka’s youngest civil judge. Hosmath, hailing from Subrahmanyanagar Sriramapuram, Bengaluru North, has been appointed among 33 young lawyers selected as new civil judges in the state. The recruitment process, conducted by the Karnataka Judicial Services Rules 2004 and subsequent amendments, saw a notification issued for the direct recruitment of Civil Judges on March 9, 2023, as stated by High Court Registrar General K.K. S. Bharat Kumar.

Namrata S Hosmath’s journey to becoming the youngest judge in the state is a remarkable feat. Having completed her SSLC education at Sri Vidya Mandir Education Society, Malleswaram, Bangalore, she pursued her PUC – PCMB course at the same institution before obtaining her BA LLB degree from University Law College, Bangalore University (5 Year Course) (2017-2022). Currently serving as Law Clerk and Research Assistant in the Karnataka High Court under Honorable Justice Dr. HB Prabhakar Shastri, Namrata’s success in clearing the Karnataka Civil Judge examination on her first attempt at the age of 24 underscores her perseverance and dedication to her profession.

Joining Hosmath in this distinction is Anil John Sequeira, a native of the coastal region, who has also been appointed as the youngest civil judge of Karnataka at the age of 25. Anil John Sequeira, hailing from Bantwala Ta| Borimar, successfully cleared the prelims, mains, and interview stages of the Karnataka Civil Judge Exam 2023 at the age of 25. Initially, it was reported that Sequeira, at 25, held the title of Karnataka’s youngest civil judge. However, with Namrata Hosmath’s appointment at the age of 24, she has claimed this distinction.
