Bengaluru: Kannada and Culture minister Jayamala has made it clear that there is no question of cancelling Tipu Jayanti celebrations organised by the department on November 10.
“We have started preparations. Jayanti will be celebrated in all the taluk and district headquarters while the main event will be held in Vidhana Soudha,” she stated.
“There may be a difference of opinion about the contributions made by Tipu to the Karnataka. The historical facts must be analysed by the historians. Tipu is a great ruler of Karnataka and there is no question of cancelling the celebrations,” she said.
She also refused to speak about the MeToo controversy. “I am always in favour of a permanent mechanism to address these kinds of problems faced by the women in every place. Harassment is the problem faced by women in all fields. We need to sensitise the society,” she said.
