Bengaluru: One of the concerns expressed by the thinkers that landslide victory of any party will lead to poor representation of the weaker sections of the society has come true in the state.
According to the Election Commission data, post-May 23 Lok Sabha election results, only five castes from the state have got representation in the Lok Sabha from the state.
Five SCs, 2 STs, 9 Lingayats, 7 Vokkaligas, 3 Brahmins and 2 Balijas are elected to the Lok Sabha from the state. “Bunt community is considered as part of Vokkaliga community,” said a thinker. “This means there is no representation for the Kurubas, Muslims, Christians, Idigas and other communities. This is a bad precedent,” he said.
“The BJP is known for representing the upper castes, but now it is limited only to two major castes. This result is not according to the diversity of the state,” he explained.
