Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the recent wall collapse in Bengaluru and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families.
PM expresses grief, announces relief
In a post on X, the Prime Minister termed the incident “unfortunate” and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that ex-gratia assistance would be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Families of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh each, while the injured will be given ₹50,000.
Seven killed in wall collapse
The incident occurred near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, where a compound wall collapsed during heavy rain. Several people had taken shelter beside the wall when it gave way, leading to seven deaths, including children, and multiple injuries.
State leaders visit site
Siddaramaiah visited the site and confirmed the casualty figures after an on-ground inspection.
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said he rushed to the spot after speaking with the police commissioner and assured immediate relief measures.
Opposition alleges negligence
Leader of Opposition R. Ashok alleged negligence, stating that the wall belonged to a government hospital and demanded a judicial inquiry.
Congress leader Rizwan Arshad described the incident as heartbreaking and called for accountability after the investigation. He also urged the government to consider increasing the compensation announced for the victims.
Probe underway
Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the incident, with a focus on determining whether structural issues or negligence contributed to the collapse.
The tragedy has sparked renewed concerns over infrastructure safety, particularly during extreme weather conditions.
