Bengaluru : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate two significant segments of Bengaluru’s ambitious Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project on  March 11. These include the 42-kilometre Dobbaspet – Doddaballapur section and the 37-kilometre Doddaballapura-Hoskote section.

According to Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, the Dobbaspet – Doddaballapur and Doddaballapura-Hoskote sections, costing ₹1,438 crore and ₹1,317 crore respectively, aim to alleviate congestion in Bengaluru’s traffic-prone areas.

In a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Surya mentioned, “PM Shri @narendramodi Ji will virtually inaugurate two stretches of Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR). STRR, by diverting traffic away from the city’s core areas, will go a long way towards reducing traffic congestion in the city.”

The STRR project is expected to facilitate travel to Bengaluru airport from regions like Hoskote, Kolar, Chittoor, Chintamani, Malur, etc., enabling commuters to reach the airport without entering the city, thereby easing traffic, especially during peak hours.

Moreover, the Dobbaspet-Doddaballapura-Hoskote stretch is anticipated to alleviate congestion in the Hebbal area, often caused by heavy vehicles traveling to neighboring Andhra Pradesh and other border regions. These vehicles can now utilize the new stretch without entering Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR).

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is overseeing the construction of STRR to enhance road connectivity to satellite towns such as Dobbaspet, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Sulibele, Hoskote, Sarjapur, Attibele, Anekal, Tattakere, Ramanagara, Kanakapura, Magadi, and Hosur. This project, estimated at ₹17,000 crore, spans 288 kilometers and includes multiple segments designed to bypass congested areas.

Originally proposed in 2005, the project materialized in 2022. In June 2022, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for STRR, setting a 40-month deadline to alleviate Bengaluru’s notorious traffic congestion.
