Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has seized the entry to the City’s Mantri Mall in Malleswaram on Monday December 6 due to non-payment of property taxes from 2018-19.

According to BBMP, the total outstanding amount of property tax taxes due by Abhishek Developers’ Mantri Square Mall is Rs. 39.49 crore, which includes property tax arrears of Rs. 27.22 crore and interest of Rs. 12.26 crore.

On October 31 and September 30, the mall was also closed for a few hours before being reopened after its management handed over demand drafts for Rs. 5 crore and a requisition letter stating that the debts will be paid. The demand draft will be deposited in BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta’s account.

According to the civic agency, Mantri Mall had previously given a cheque for Rs. 10.43 crore for the year 2018-19, which had bounced, prompting it to file a court case.
