Bengaluru: In a remarkable turn of events, a ragpicker in Bengaluru stumbled upon a bag containing 23 bundles of US dollars in a garbage pile. The estimated value of the discovered dollars amounts to ₹25 crore in Indian currency. The ragpicker, identified as Salman Sheikh, made the surprising find on November 1.
Handling of the Discovery
Upon finding the bundles, Sheikh decided to keep them and later shared the discovery with his boss, Bappa, on November 5. Subsequently, Bappa reached out to social activist Kali Mullah, who then contacted Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. Following the chain of communication, Hebbal Police Station was assigned to investigate the case.
Police Suspicions and Chemical Traces
The police suspect the involvement of gangs engaged in the Black Dollar Scam, as the discovered currency notes were found to be laced with chemicals. To determine the authenticity of the dollars, they have been sent to the Reserve Bank of India for verification.
