Bengaluru: AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi has raised the demand made by Chandana Chandrashekhar, a visually challenged final year B.Com student of Mount Carmel College to roll back import duty on Braille typewriters and Braille paper.
Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Mount Carmel College in the city last week had raised the issue of visually challenged students in the interaction.

Chandana, a resident of Malleshwaram, who raised the issue of costly Braille typewriters and Braille paper, which is unaffordable for a majority of visually challenged students, managed to get the email id of one of Gandhi’s assistants and wrote an email to him seeking Gandhi’s intervention.

She was in for a surprise on Tuesday when she received a call from AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s office to inform her that Rahul Gandhi has written to the Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on November 30.

In his letter, Gandhi pointed out that such a decision would empower the needy students as they can study easily. Later he tweeted about the letter through his official twitter handle.

Chandana overwelmed with Rahul’s reply said, “I did not write this mail for my personal benefit. I was really happy that Gandhi had raised the issue,” she said.
