The trial in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, in which actor Darshan, his associate Pavitra Gowda and 15 others are accused, is set to move forward at a faster pace after a sessions court agreed to conduct hearings four days a week.

The decision came during court proceedings on Monday following a request from the prosecution for continuous and time-bound hearings.

Prosecution seeks speedy trial

Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) P Prasanna Kumar urged the court to hear the matter on a day-to-day basis, stating that the prosecution is fully prepared for uninterrupted trial proceedings.

He emphasised the importance of adhering to timelines laid down by the Supreme Court and requested that unnecessary adjournments be avoided.

According to the prosecutor, the apex court has directed that the examination of 60 key witnesses in the case be completed within one year, making regular hearings essential for timely completion of the trial.

Court agrees to frequent hearings

Accepting the prosecution’s plea, the sessions court agreed to conduct hearings four days every week. The court also indicated that the schedule could be extended to five days a week if required to ensure smooth progress of the case.

The move is expected to accelerate witness examination and evidence recording in one of Karnataka’s most closely watched criminal cases.

Case continues to draw attention

The Renukaswamy murder case has remained in the public spotlight since the arrest of actor Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and other accused persons. The proceedings have attracted significant attention from the public, legal observers and the film industry.

With the court now committing to a more intensive hearing schedule, the trial is expected to enter a crucial phase in the coming weeks.
