Bengaluru: Authorities at the Bengaluru Railway Station have deployed security and shut a porters’ restroom after a right-wing group claimed it was being used to offer prayers by Muslim porters.

The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS), a radical right-wing group, barged into the porters’ restroom at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station a day after a Twitter handle claimed the restroom had been converted into a room for Muslims to perform namaz.

The HJS called the porters’ use of the restroom for namaz as a “threat to national security,” and submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Railway Manager alleging that the restroom had been turned into an unauthorised place for prayer.

On Tuesday February 1, the South Western Railways (SWR) repainted the room’s walls and deployed personnel from the Railway Police Force (RPF) after it was locked.
