Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Administrator Rakesh Singh has warned that he will pay surprise visits to ongoing civic works and has urged zonal officials to review the works on a regular basis.

Singh urged BBMP officials at a virtual review meeting that they should collaborate with other departments.

“Rather than blaming each other, we should work responsibly and in coordination with other departments like BWSSB, Bescom, and Bengaluru Smart City Limited (BenSCL),” Singh said.

He directed BenSCL officials to complete the job they had started as soon as possible.

“Maintenance work must be carried out on all city roads. Footpaths with broken slabs should be replaced to facilitate easy pedestrian movement.

“Zonal officials should also keep an eye on the progress of pothole filling and work on stormwater drains (SWD) and effective solid waste management,” he added.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta advised officials to remain proactive. “Before citizens complain about civic issues, we need to address them.  That is when citizens will begin to have a positive view of us,” Gupta added.

During the rainy season, Gupta urged officials to be extra alert, urging them to empty shoulder drains to ensure that rainwater flows freely. He also told zonal officials to get rid of unlawful hoardings and OFC cables.
