Bengaluru: BBMP along with the Indian Army’s Madras Engineering Group(MEG) conducted a cleanup of the Ulsoor lake for the past week and so far 30 loads of garbage has been removed.
Previously, 50 staff members from BBMP and 50 members from MEG were engaged in the cleanup and managed to clean. But, on December 12, 80 staff members from BBMP and 150 members from MEG helped in cleaning garbage from the lake and managed to clear up 113 acres of the Ulsoor lake; roughly 91 per cent of the entire lake. The collected weeds and refuse were brought to shore with the help of 5 boats. The team heaved in approximately 30 loads of garbage to the shore.
BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunatha Prasad went on a boat and inspected the lake’s cleanliness after the cleanup and appreciated the efforts. He also said that the Ulsoor lake has to be developed into a tourist attraction in the city.
He added that a promenade will be developed for the public and the grant will be earmarked for next year’s budget of the BBMP. Mohan Krish, Chief Engineer of the BBMP Lakes Division, has installed a 100 feet long trash barrier near the water flowing tank. The trash barrier collects all floating objects and keeps the lake clean.
