A 29-year-old rowdy sheeter was brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar on Saturday evening in a shocking attack that unfolded in full public view.
The victim, identified as Rajubhai alias Raju, was a resident of Pragatipura and had a criminal history. Police said he had previously been arrested in a decade-old murder case and was listed as a rowdy sheeter in the area.
Attack took place on busy road
According to police, the incident occurred at around 6 pm after Raju had tea at a nearby shop and was walking home.
A group of assailants reportedly arrived in a car and intercepted him on JP Nagar Main Road. Sensing danger, Raju attempted to flee, but the attackers allegedly chased him, blocked his path and repeatedly attacked him with machetes and other sharp weapons.
Police said the assault was so brutal that Raju died on the spot before he could receive medical attention.
Public watched in shock
The murder took place on a busy road, with several members of the public witnessing the attack. However, the sudden and violent nature of the assault left onlookers unable to intervene.
The attackers fled the scene immediately after carrying out the murder.
Police launch investigation
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and trace the accused. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning witnesses to establish the motive behind the killing.
No arrests had been made at the time of filing this report.
Investigators suspect the murder could be linked to previous criminal rivalry, though they have not ruled out other angles.
