Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and injured 33 others. What began as a celebration of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first-ever IPL title win turned into a calamity on June 4, drawing widespread grief and condemnation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Tendulkar wrote, “What happened at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, is beyond tragic. My heart goes out to every affected family. Wishing peace and strength to all.”

The fatal incident occurred after a massive crowd, estimated between 2 to 3 lakh people, swarmed the limited-capacity stadium, which can hold only 35,000. The confusion over the announcement of a victory parade and the release of free passes led to panic, chaos, and eventually, a stampede.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the administrative failure and announced an inquiry. “This tragedy should not have happened. We are with the victims. The pain of this tragedy has even erased the joy of victory,” he said, adding that the government would not politicize the incident.

As tributes pour in, Tendulkar’s message has resonated with fans and citizens across the country, underscoring the need for accountability and better event management.
