Sangolli Rayanna adventure academy to come up in Belagavi

Bengaluru: The State will soon have an adventure academy to honour freedom fighter Sangolli Rayanna at the birthplace of Rayanna in Sangolli village located in Bailahongal taluk of Belagavi district.

On Tuesday, at the first meeting of Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Foundation, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed the officials to establish the academy for which 100 acres of land will be acquired. The CM said that the Sangolli Rayanna academy will be run along the lines of the National Defence Academy and will incorporate several features which will teach the youth about the great freedom fighter.

Other than the academy, Rayanna’s birthplace Sangolli will be developed as a tourist attraction and Nandagada the place where he was hung and later entombed, will be developed into a memorial. A committee of experts will also be formed to advise on how to develop the memorial and the report will be submitted in a month’s time. Plans will be drawn up for the construction of a library, community hall, Sainik School and tourist amenities. A memorial hall in Rayanna’s name is being constructed in the Agricultural Produce Market Committe (APMC) Yard in Nandagad at a cost of `1.09 crore.

CM Siddaramaiah who launched a website of the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Academy, has assured the officials of sufficient funds and has instructed them to complete the works in a year’s time.
