In a major breakthrough, Parappana Agrahara Police have arrested a serial thief accused of repeatedly targeting paying guest accommodations across Bengaluru’s IT corridors.

The accused, identified as Shaktivelu, allegedly stole mobile phones, laptops and two-wheelers by exploiting security lapses in PG accommodations housing working professionals.

Goods worth ₹6 lakh recovered

Police said they recovered five laptops, five mobile phones and three motorcycles from the accused. The total value of the seized property is estimated at around ₹6 lakh.

Officials described the arrest as a significant success after multiple theft complaints from technology hubs in the city.

Complaint from Electronic City led to arrest

The investigation began after an employee of a private company reported the theft of his mobile phone from a PG accommodation in Electronic City Phase 2.

Police examined CCTV footage from surrounding areas and used technical surveillance to trace the suspect.

IT areas were prime targets

According to investigators, the accused mainly targeted PG facilities in Whitefield and Electronic City, where many IT and BT employees stay.

Police said he took advantage of predictable work schedules and cases where residents forgot to lock doors after returning late from work.

Modus operandi revealed

The accused allegedly travelled from Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru in the early hours, entered unsecured PG rooms quietly, and stole valuables.

If vehicle keys were found inside, he would also steal parked two-wheelers before returning to Tamil Nadu to avoid suspicion.

Safety advisory issued

Police have urged PG residents and professionals to secure doors, avoid leaving valuables unattended, and immediately report suspicious persons in residential premises
