Bengaluru: The five City Corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will soon launch a citywide drive to remove abandoned vehicles from public roads and open spaces, giving owners a final seven-day notice before the vehicles are seized and auctioned.
The move comes under Section 324 of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Act, 2024, following directions issued by Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
Seven-day notice before action
According to an official notification, authorities will identify abandoned vehicles parked on public streets and affix an official warning sticker, giving owners seven days to remove them. A wheel clamp will also be fitted to the vehicle when the notice is issued to prevent it from being moved without authorisation.
If the vehicle remains unclaimed after the seven-day period, joint operational authorities will tow and seize it.
Seized vehicles to be auctioned
Officials said all confiscated vehicles will be disposed of through a public auction in accordance with statutory guidelines. Once the auction process is completed, no further ownership claims will be entertained.
The authorities have urged vehicle owners not to leave unused or abandoned vehicles on public roads, footpaths or open spaces.
Owners urged to act immediately
The notification advises residents to shift any unattended vehicles to their private property without delay to avoid confiscation and auction.
The initiative is aimed at clearing public spaces, improving traffic movement and enhancing road safety across Bengaluru. Officials said abandoned vehicles often occupy valuable parking space, obstruct traffic and create safety as well as sanitation concerns.
The enforcement drive is expected to begin across all five City Corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority in the coming days
