Police officials seized six mobile phones and eight SIM cards during a surprise inspection at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru.
According to officials, the raid was conducted by the Parappana Agrahara police between 1.45 pm and 3.30 pm under the supervision of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. Authorities said the operation was part of routine efforts to prevent illegal communication and maintain security inside the prison premises.
During the inspection, police personnel searched multiple prison barracks and recovered banned electronic items allegedly being used by inmates. The seized materials included six mobile phones and eight SIM cards.
Officials suspect the devices may have been used for unauthorised communication from inside the prison. Investigators are now trying to determine how the phones and SIM cards were smuggled into the high-security facility.
The incident has once again raised concerns about security lapses and the availability of illegal communication devices inside prisons despite strict monitoring systems.
Authorities said further inquiry is underway, and prison staff as well as inmates may be questioned as part of the investigation. Additional security checks are also expected in the coming days.
Parappana Agrahara prison has witnessed similar recoveries in the past, prompting repeated calls for tighter surveillance and stricter enforcement within correctional facilities
