Bengaluru: Six police personnel have been suspended in connection with the recovery of gelatin sticks near the route of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bengaluru earlier this month. Officials stated that the suspensions were ordered pending completion of an enquiry into the incident, which has raised concerns regarding a possible security lapse during the Prime Minister’s visit on May 10.

The suspension orders were issued by the Superintendent of Police of Bengaluru South (Ramanagara) following preliminary findings linked to the incident. Authorities said further action would depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The development comes after the discovery of explosive materials during security checks conducted ahead of the Prime Minister’s programme on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Gelatin sticks found during security sanitisation

According to police officials, the gelatin sticks were recovered during routine security sanitisation and inspection procedures conducted before the Prime Minister’s arrival.

Police stated that the explosive materials were located near an ashram close to Kagalipura on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Central Range), Bengaluru said two gelatin sticks were found near a footpath around three kilometres away from the main venue where the Prime Minister was scheduled to attend a programme.

Authorities indicated that the recovery was made during standard security checks that are routinely carried out before visits by high-profile dignitaries.

Probe launched into possible security lapse

Following the recovery, officials immediately secured the area and initiated emergency security procedures.

Bomb disposal teams and forensic experts were reportedly rushed to the location to examine the materials and assess any potential threat.

Police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine how the explosive materials reached the area and whether there was any deliberate attempt to affect security arrangements.

Officials stated that all possible angles are being examined as part of the ongoing enquiry.

The six police personnel have been placed under suspension until the completion of the investigation process.

Political reactions emerge after incident

The incident had triggered criticism from political leaders following the recovery of the explosive materials.

B Y Vijayendra had criticised the state government and described the recovery of gelatin sticks as a serious matter.

He had stated that there should be no compromise in matters concerning the security of the Prime Minister and called for strict action against individuals responsible as well as officials found negligent.

He also expressed concern regarding law and order and urged authorities to ensure stronger security arrangements for high-profile visits.

Investigation continues

Police officials stated that investigations remain underway and further details would emerge after examination of evidence and findings from the enquiry.

Authorities are expected to assess whether procedural lapses occurred and whether additional measures are required to strengthen security arrangements during future high-level visits.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict security protocols and comprehensive surveillance measures during visits by national leaders.
