Commuters at a Namma Metro station in Bengaluru were briefly alarmed on Sunday afternoon after flames and thick smoke were seen emerging from a section of the station premises.

The incident occurred at Nagasandra Metro Station on the Green Line’s Madavara-Silk Institute corridor, prompting an immediate response from Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) personnel.

Visuals from the spot showing smoke and flames quickly circulated on social media, raising concerns among commuters and residents in the surrounding area.

Fire reported near emergency exit

According to BMRCL, the fire was reported at around 1.30 pm near the station’s emergency exit area and involved a signboard.

Operations and fire response teams were immediately deployed to the location after the incident was detected.

Authorities said the blaze was minor in nature and was brought under control within a short period, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the station.

Services continue without disruption

BMRCL confirmed that no injuries or untoward incidents were reported during the fire.

The metro corporation also clarified that train services on the corridor continued normally and that passengers did not face any disruption to their journeys.

In an official statement, BMRCL said the situation was fully under control and appealed to the public not to panic over the incident.

Cause yet to be determined

While the fire was extinguished swiftly, officials have not yet disclosed what caused the blaze.

An assessment is expected to determine how the signboard near the emergency exit caught fire and whether any additional safety measures are required.

The incident once again highlighted the importance of rapid emergency response systems at public transport facilities, with metro staff managing to contain the situation before it affected operations or passenger safety
