Bengaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad on Thursday accepted former revenue minister Srinivas Prasad’s resignation.

Speaking with media persons, Speaker Koliwad said the decision to accept Srinivas Prasad’s resignation was delayed for three days expecting Prasad may change his decision. “Today Prasad has confirmed that he had resigned on his own when contacted over the phone. I decided to accept the resignation after discussing with him,’’ Koliwad said.

The speaker said that Srinivas Prasad had met him on October 17 and submitted his resignation.

Answering a query on the reluctance of legislators to participate in the debate during the Assembly session, the speaker said that legislators have freedom to participate or not to participate in the debate. “We can take buffalos to the river but can’t force them to drink water,’’ the speaker said.
