Bengaluru: In a big relief to the State-run BMTC, the State Government has released Rs. 200 Crore towards the payment of various arrears including the PF, death benefits of the employees, and pending bills of various suppliers.
The corporation has been struggling since April 2020 following the Covid – 19 outbreak as the occupancy rate has come down drastically beside frequent lockdowns and restrictions. Two strikes called by the employees also added to the miseries of the corporation which is operating over 6,000 buses everyday.
Transport Minister B. Sreeramulu had tweeted urging to provide the government support for the ailing corporation. Meanwhile, the State Government is likely to merge all the corporations to improve the efficiency and bringdown the operational costs.
