Bengaluru: The state finance department has released Rs 46.59 crores towards setting up Indira canteens across the state. According to the notification issued in this regard, this money will be utilised to open 247 canteens in 173 urban places across the state.
According to sources, the state government has reserved Rs 186.37 crores for the Indira canteen project under the SFC scheme. “This is the first instalment, under which construction work will be taken up,” informed an officer.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued instructions to the officers to start these 247 Indira canteens by January 1 as a new year gift to the poor who can’t afford quality meals. The meal has been priced at Rs 10 while the rest of the snacks are a cool Rs 5 per plate.
