A tragic accident occurred in west Bengaluru when a 15-year-old student died after falling from an abandoned building while shooting social media reels with friends.

The victim, Nishanth H, a Class 10 student, had completed his CBSE examinations just a week ago. The incident took place on Friday evening in D Group Layout.

Reel shoot ends in tragedy

According to police, Nishanth left his Ullala home around 4:30 pm and met two friends. The trio decided to shoot social media reels and later chose an abandoned resort building in the area as the location for their video.

Police said the building has remained vacant for nearly 20 years due to a legal dispute. A security guard is usually stationed at the premises from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Investigators believe the boys entered the property after the guard had left by squeezing through a narrow passage beside the compound wall.

Fatal fall from rooftop

After entering the premises, Nishanth climbed onto the wall of a tennis court structure and managed to reach the rooftop, which had polycarbonate sheets installed for lighting.

His friends, who remained below, reportedly warned him not to walk on the sheets and urged him to return.

However, Nishanth had already taken a few steps across the fragile material. As he attempted to turn back, the sheet suddenly gave way, causing him to fall from a height of around 35 to 40 feet.

He suffered severe head injuries in the fall.

Rushed to hospital but declared dead

His friends immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.

Police said the attempt to create social media content at a dangerous location ultimately led to the fatal accident.

Family donates teen’s eyes

Nishanth was the elder son of Harsha, a civil contractor. In a deeply moving gesture amid their grief, the family donated the boy’s eyes.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death at the Annapoorneshwarinagar Police Station and are continuing their investigation.

Authorities have also urged youngsters to avoid entering abandoned or unsafe structures for social media content creation, highlighting the serious risks involved.
