Bengaluru police have detained a 17-year-old boy for his alleged involvement in multiple theft and chain-snatching incidents, leading to the recovery of stolen property worth approximately ₹4.2 lakh.

The juvenile’s arrest helped police solve 11 cases related to mobile phone snatching, chain snatching and two-wheeler thefts across the city.

Phone snatching complaint leads to breakthrough

The investigation began after a student residing in a paying guest accommodation in HBR Layout filed a complaint on May 19.

According to police, the student was walking along 18th Cross when a scooter-borne youth allegedly snatched her mobile phone and fled the scene.

Acting on technical and field investigation, police traced the suspect near the KEB Junction area in Nagawara on May 21.

Stolen property recovered

When detained, the teenager was allegedly found in possession of a stolen scooter and a mobile phone.

During questioning, he reportedly confessed to involvement in several vehicle thefts and mobile phone snatching cases.

Police said the juvenile had hidden stolen vehicles in a vacant plot near a playground in Chellikere.

Based on the information provided, officers recovered four stolen two-wheelers, seven mobile phones and a nine-gram gold chain.

Eleven cases detected

The recovered items are collectively valued at around ₹4.2 lakh.

Police said the detention of the teenager has helped detect 11 criminal cases registered across different police station limits.
