In a strange turn of events, a group of robbers looted a warehouse in Bengaluru, making off with human hair valued between ₹90 lakh and ₹1 crore.
The stolen hair was intended for export to China, Myanmar, and Hong Kong. A gang of six was captured on surveillance cameras arriving in a vehicle on February 28. Authorities in Bengaluru are actively searching for the suspects.
The burglary took place shortly after Chinese buyers had inspected the stock for wig production. Warehouse owner Venkataramana has filed a complaint, prompting police to scrutinize CCTV recordings to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Investigators suspect that the gang was well aware of the warehouse inventory and its high market worth. Authorities are probing whether this was an insider betrayal or a carefully coordinated theft by a syndicate involved in the lucrative human hair trade.
Just last month, Bengaluru police cracked down on a separate six-member gang attempting to pull off an ATM heist inspired by the 2023 crime thriller Lucky Baskhar. The suspects, employees of Secure Value Private Limited, manipulated funds meant for ATM refills.
The Mahalakshmi Layout Police apprehended the gang and retrieved ₹52 lakh in stolen cash. The accused, who held crucial roles as cash officers and ATM maintenance personnel, siphoned funds instead of depositing them into machines, covering shortages by misallocating cash across multiple ATMs.
