Bengaluru: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) headquarters on New BEL Road in Bengaluru received its third bomb threat email in four days, prompting a massive security operation before police declared the threat a hoax.
The email was reportedly sent around 9 pm on Sunday, claiming that bombs planted inside the premises would explode at 2 pm. ISRO staff noticed the message on Monday morning and immediately alerted the police.
Massive search operation launched
Following the alert, personnel from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Sanjaynagar Police rushed to the ISRO campus and carried out an extensive search.
Security teams thoroughly inspected Antariksh Bhavan and other buildings within the headquarters. Police also conducted checks at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) facility in Peenya.
After several hours of inspection, officials confirmed that no explosives were found and declared the threat to be a hoax.
Third threat in four days
This is the third bomb threat received by ISRO in less than a week.
On July 3, police arrested Nishant Tyagi (36) from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly sending an earlier bomb threat email to the office of ISRO Chairman Dr V. Narayanan.
However, Bengaluru North Deputy Commissioner of Police B.S. Nemagoud said Tyagi had no connection with the second and third emails, noting that all three messages originated from different email accounts.
Police continue investigation
The Sanjaynagar Police have registered three separate cases and are investigating the source of the latest threat emails.
Authorities are working to trace those responsible while maintaining heightened security at key ISRO facilities in Bengaluru.
The repeated hoax threats have prompted increased vigilance, with security agencies responding swiftly to ensure the safety of employees and critical infrastructure.
