Bengaluru: According to a person familiar with the situation, the local police have arrested three unidentified men who were riding in a special train that was transporting pilgrims from Ayodhya to Mysuru on suspicion of inciting religious sentiments after they allegedly threatened to attack it on Friday.

The three accused allegedly boarded the train’s second carriage at 8:40 p.m., according to the passengers. The three men allegedly threatened to set fire to the train when the devotees shouted “Jai Shri Ram.”

Following their capture, the men were turned over to the railway police by the passengers. Tensions, however, increased when it was alleged that the police had not placed them under arrest.
As the news, hundreds of BJP workers and supporters flocked to the railway station, demanding the three men’s arrest, according to police.

To help restore order, Bellary’s superintendent of police (SP), BL Shriharibabu, quickly arrived at the train station accompanied by officers from several stations.

“One individual, a Hospet native, has been detained in relation to the incident. Sections 295A (malicious act intending to outrage religious feelings), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (threatening with life) of the Indian Penal Code are the charges we filed against him. The Bellary railway police inspector, Mudiyappa, stated, “We are looking for the other two accused.”

A number of BJP leaders condemned the incident widely. “Should be given a pat on the back are those who made such threats.” According to Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi, “Congress is encouraging such incidents for the vote bank.”

Opposition leader R Ashoka declared, “Hariprasad, the leader of the Congress, had always wanted to be a minister. He had brought up the Godhra massacre even at the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Hindus are the ones who travel to Ayodhya. Muslim men made threats against the passengers, and nothing was done to stop them, the speaker continued.
