The Shirva Police have arrested three men for allegedly cheating a fuel station in Udupi district by obtaining diesel worth ₹4,711 without making the payment. The accused were traced to Bengaluru, and the car used in the offence has been seized.
According to police, the incident took place at around 9.10 pm on June 27 at a petrol bunk in Subhash Nagar, Kurkalu village of Karkala taluk. The fuel station is owned by Daniel C. Ammanna and managed by Ashish (27), who lodged the complaint.
Accused fled after pretending to make payment
Police said three men arrived at the fuel station in a car and asked an employee, Shashank, to fill the vehicle’s tank with diesel.
After diesel worth ₹4,711.09 was dispensed, one of the occupants requested the QR code for payment and appeared to scan it. He then asked for the bill, and while the employee was preparing it, the trio allegedly sped away without completing the transaction.
Following the complaint, Shirva Police registered a case under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for cheating.
Police track down accused in Bengaluru
The investigation was carried out under the supervision of Karkala Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijay Prasad and Kapu Circle Police Inspector Azmath Ali.
A police team led by Shirva Police Sub-Inspector Manjunath Marabada, along with officers Lohith Kumar C.S., Harsha Bhat, Basavaraj and Dariyappa, tracked the accused to Bengaluru and arrested them.
The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Riyaz (26) of Kotekar in Kaup taluk, Mohammed Afraj (23) of Bhutabettu in Shirva, Kaup taluk, and Aashil (21) of Ambagilu, Udupi.
