Bengaluru: 18-month-old girl burns alive in High Grounds

An 18-month-old toddler tragically died after a fire broke out in a room at The Summit Apartments on Sankey Road, falling under the High Grounds police station limits, on Wednesday. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

The deceased has been identified as Anu, daughter of Pushkar Kumar and Jyoti Kumari, originally from Nepal. Jyoti works as a housekeeping worker at the apartment. The family has been residing in Bengaluru for the past eight years, staying in a 10×10 square feet room in the parking area on the ground floor of the apartment.

Sequence of events

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm when both parents were away at work. Anu’s mother had left her at home, intending to return early, but a fire broke out in the small room. The toddler died on the spot.

Residents rushed to douse the flames, but the child could not be saved. Fire and emergency services extinguished the blaze, and the toddler’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
