Tumakuru: Nine persons have been arrested under the Arms Act, including one who was making and selling single-barrel muzzle-loading guns made in the country in district illegally.
According to a press release, a 42-year-old Krishnappa, a resident of Durgadahalli Halekote in the Urdigere hobli of the Tumakuru Taluk, was making and selling guns illegally. He was a carpenter who stored some explosives as well as the materials required to make SBML guns in his house.
The price of the country-based guns ranged from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. Constable Kiran T. H. filed a complaint, and a case was registered under the Arms Act. Police arrested Krishnappa and seized one country-made gun, including gunpowder, from his house. He was also repairing both new and old guns.
The other people arrested include Chikkanagaiah, Shivaraju, Narayana, Narasimhamurthy, Narasaraju, Siddagangappa, and Maruthesh T. V., who bought guns from Krishnappa. Police seized one country-made gun from each.
Police also arrested Mohammed Ayaz Ahmed, a 54-year-old Balanakatte welder who is accused of welding metal pipes used to make the guns.
