Tumakuru: Head Constable Nagaraju, who was on duty at Baichapura Cross in Holavanahalli Hobli of the Taluk, was assaulted by six persons and obstructed from discharging police duty under Koratagere Police Station limits.
As a precautionary measure, the Police Department had already created awareness that the Akkirampura Market should not hold Saturday’s fair on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner. However, as usual, the sheep and goat traders were loading sheep and goats in the Bolero vehicle from Arasapur Village towards Baichapur, when the Police personnel on duty stopped the vehicle and were about to send them back, suddenly six accused persons assaulted and obstructed the duty of Chief Constable Nagaraju, verbally abused the policemen. It is known that the accused residents are Arasapura Agrahara Village.
The arrested have been identified as Channappa (54), Narasimharaju (28), Naveen Kumar (28), Lakshmipati (26) and Nagesh (22). Another accused is absconding.
A case has been registered at Koratagere Police Station in this regard and the five accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
