Tumakuru: Public allege BESCOM-GP causing health hazards

Tumakuru: In 2019 – 20, the electricity dues of 154 units of 24 Gram Panchayats were only Rs. 64,000. The 5-year term of the Andhra-based contractor, who was managing the 154 unit ended in 2020. The total amount received was Rs. 84 lakh. The dues have to be paid. BESCOM and have now created a shortage of clean water in Koratagere, rue the public.

There are 154 pure drinking water units in 24 GPs in Koratagere Taluk of Tumakuru District. Out of the 154 units, 20 units have been handed over to the Gram Panchayat. It has been 2 years since the re-tender for 77 units was invited. Most of the remaining water plants are in a bad shape, the public allege.

There has been administrative failure of the officials in the matter of maintenance of the units, further allege the public.
