Two fake journalists held for extortion

Bengaluru: The police have arrested two persons for allegedly extorting money from a jeweller by posing as journalists. The police have identified the arrested persons as Rudrajit (28) from Chitradurga and Somasekhar (31) from Hubballi.

According to the police, the arrested are graduates, who reside on Kanakapura Road, used to pose as journalists to extort money from jewellers by threatening to publish negative news about them. The police said the duo had fake identity cards of a private TV channel.

The police said the duo had purchased a gold chain from a jeweller in Thalaghattapura police station limits. Later they approached the jeweler Bhukaram and said the gold chain was not up to the required standards and threatened to telecast news about it. The duo demanded Rs 50,000 from jeweler to keep quite. The police nabbed them based on a complaint lodged by the jeweller.

It is said there are cases against them in Kumara Swamy Layout and Mico Layout police stations.
