United Way Bengaluru, in collaboration with State Street, has extended vital support to the differently abled community through the distribution of a wide range of mobility aids and assistive technologies.
The initiative provided:
- 4 electric autos (e-autos)
- 10 NeoMotion wheelchairs
- 40 SHG smart glasses
- 3 Kibo reading devices
- 200 Amazon Alexa units
In a public statement, United Way Bengaluru explained that the e-auto programme is geared towards creating sustainable livelihoods for underrepresented and vulnerable sections of society. These vehicles are not only mobility aids but also tools for economic independence.
The organization emphasized that the assistive devices aim to enhance independent living, communication, and learning. “By introducing technology-driven tools that improve movement and interaction, the project equips individuals with the means to thrive more confidently in their surroundings,” the statement noted.
The devices have been carefully chosen to cater to various needs — from enhancing physical mobility to improving digital accessibility. Smart devices like Alexa can assist with everyday tasks, while tools like Kibo and SHG glasses improve reading and vision experiences for the visually impaired.
This initiative highlights the growing importance of inclusive technology in ensuring equal access and opportunity for the differently abled, reinforcing a vision of empowerment through innovation.
