Bengaluru: Vatal Nagaraj, chief of Kannada Chaluvali Paksha, on Thursday, December 27, demanded that acclaimed Sandalwood actor and Kannada cultural icon, Late Dr. Rajkumar be posthumously awarded the ‘Bharat Ratna.’
Vatal Nagaraj also demanded that a bust of the actor must be installed in the premises of the parliament.
Speaking to reporters, Vatal Nagaraj said, “We don’t need to explain what type of an actor Dr. Rajkumar was. He has been felicitated with many awards for his service in the film field. He has also been conferred with the Dada Saheb Phalke award, which is the biggest honour for the film fraternity. With his simplicity and politeness, Dr. Rajkumar was and still is a role model for crores. So the only honour that is left in the country, the much desirable award for Rajkumar is ‘Bharat Ratna’. So I request the President, Prime Minister and our state leaders to take initiative in this regard.”
President of Dr. Rajkumar Fans Association and former Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) President Sa Ra Govindu and other Kannada activists accompanied Vatal.
