Ramanagar: In a bizarre incident, residents of Bilagumba village in Ramanagar district released water stored in a lake and almost emptied it to search for gold ornaments reportedly thrown by a village resident. However, this entire exercise did not yield any result as they could not locate the ornments.

According to the locals, the residents released water of the Halagegowdana lake of the village.

It is said that Savita, wife of a local farmer named Bhagavanta allegedly threw her ornament box in to this lake, on December 9 after a verbal spat with family members.

Soon the locals started searching the lake for the ornament box and later they decided to empty the lake.

Villagers used tractors to make way for water. They used a couple of tankers to suck out the excess water. Later, the activity was stopped by the PDO and other officials. However, by then the lake was almost empty.

Interestingly, Savita is now saying that she had not thrown the box into the lake, leaving the villagers embarassed and confused.

The total weight of missing ornaments is around 250 grams.
