A woman’s LinkedIn post detailing a distressing Uber ride in Mysuru has gone viral, prompting a response from the company. The communication strategist, Nidhi Tara, claimed that the driver demanded ₹2500 in addition to the fare, which she refused. The following day, the driver allegedly harassed her elderly grandparents at the pickup location.
“I never thought I’d be sharing this, but safety is a serious concern, and this incident needs immediate attention. During a recent Uber ride from Mysuru to Kempegowda International Airport, my family and I faced unacceptable behavior from the driver, which put our safety at risk,” Nidhi shared.
She added that the situation escalated when the driver appeared at her grandparents’ home at 10:30 PM, demanding money and accusing her of cheating him. “His actions not only left us shaken but also posed a serious threat,” she emphasized.
Uber responded to her post, apologizing and confirming that a specialized team was investigating the matter. However, Nidhi criticized their response, stating the issue was handled “casually,” citing missed calls and lack of proper follow-up.
Many social media users expressed concern, with some urging Uber to take immediate action to improve safety. Others shared their own experiences of safety lapses with the service, particularly during late-night rides.
