Bengaluru: A video showing a biker allegedly being assaulted by a passenger of a Mercedes-Benz during a road rage incident in Bengaluru‘s Indiranagar has gone viral on social media, prompting calls for police action. The incident reportedly took place at a traffic signal on 12th Main Road on July 2, with eyewitnesses claiming the altercation began over a dispute while navigating through traffic.

Altercation at traffic signal

According to an eyewitness account shared on social media by Lakshman Naik, the incident occurred during a red signal at Indiranagar 12th Main Road.

The biker allegedly attempted to pass through a narrow gap between a Maruti Dzire and a Mercedes-Benz and honked, requesting the Dzire driver to move slightly.

This reportedly led to an argument between the biker and a co-passenger in the Mercedes.

Passenger allegedly assaults biker

A video recorded by a witness shows the Mercedes passenger getting out of the vehicle, allegedly slapping the biker multiple times and pushing him off his motorcycle.

The passenger is also seen continuing to argue with and verbally abuse the biker even after the traffic signal turned green and vehicles began moving.

The footage has since been widely circulated on social media.

Bystanders intervene

According to the eyewitness, other commuters at the traffic signal intervened after witnessing the assault.

The driver of the Mercedes reportedly stepped in to stop the altercation and is said to have offered to pay for minor damage allegedly caused to the Maruti Dzire during the incident.

Several members of the public also supported the biker and helped calm the situation.

Eyewitness seeks police action

Sharing the video on Instagram, Lakshman Naik said road rage incidents in Bengaluru were becoming increasingly concerning.

He stated that no individual has the right to physically assault, threaten or intimidate another person on the road, irrespective of their social status or influence.

Naik tagged the Bengaluru City Police in his post and urged authorities to examine the incident.

He later clarified that the video was shared to seek justice for the biker and to highlight the growing problem of road rage rather than to gain attention on social media.

Social media demands action

The video has drawn widespread reactions online, with many users urging police to take action against the alleged assault.

Several social media users condemned the violence, stating that disagreements on the road should never escalate into physical attacks.

Others praised the bystanders who intervened to support the biker and de-escalate the situation.

Investigation awaited

As of now, there has been no official statement from the Bengaluru City Police regarding the incident or whether a case has been registered.

The viral video has once again highlighted concerns over rising instances of road rage in the city and renewed calls for strict action against those involved in acts of violence on public roads.
