A viral video showing a motorist confronting traffic police over an alleged prolonged halt for the Governor’s convoy has reignited discussions about VIP movement and public inconvenience in Bengaluru.
The incident occurred on Old Airport Road near ISRO Junction, where ongoing underpass construction has already been causing traffic disruptions. The video, widely shared on social media, showed a man sitting on a zebra crossing and arguing with police personnel over traffic restrictions.
Viral claims trigger public outrage
The controversy gained attention after social media posts claimed commuters had been stranded for nearly 30 minutes to facilitate the movement of the Governor’s convoy.
Some posts further alleged that the motorist was travelling with his pregnant wife and was unable to access alternative routes, leading to widespread criticism online.
The video quickly sparked debate over the balance between VIP security arrangements and public convenience in one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors.
Police dispute key allegations
Following the viral circulation of the video, Bengaluru Traffic Police launched an inquiry into the incident.
According to officials, CCTV footage from the stretch between HAL Airport and the protest location was reviewed. Police stated that the footage did not support claims that traffic had been stopped for 30 minutes.
Officials said traffic restrictions were imposed due to ongoing underpass construction, which had reduced vehicle movement to a single carriageway.
Police maintained that only one side of traffic was temporarily halted and that the maximum disruption lasted between seven and eight minutes.
Statements recorded
Authorities also stated that the motorist, identified as Mohid, and his wife were called for questioning and their statements were recorded.
Police said no pregnant woman was found inside the vehicle during checks conducted at the scene. Officials further stated that the motorist later submitted an apology for disrupting police duties.
The incident has once again highlighted public frustration over traffic management and congestion in Bengaluru, while also raising questions about how information shared on social media can rapidly shape public perception before official verification.
