Star couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma have come under sharp criticism on social media after a video of their recent arrival at Mumbai airport went viral, with netizens accusing them of being insensitive towards a specially abled fan.

Viral clip sparks outrage

The incident took place as the cricketer and the actor exited the airport terminal after returning from a visit to spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj’s ashram, Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj at Varah Ghat. In the circulating video, a young specially abled fan is seen approaching Kohli, seemingly requesting a photograph.

Kohli, however, walks straight towards his vehicle without stopping or acknowledging the request, while security personnel move the boy aside. Anushka Sharma is seen following Kohli into the car moments later.

Netizens question empathy and conduct

The clip quickly triggered a wave of criticism online. Several users described the moment as “rude” and “heartless”, saying it was painful to watch a disabled child being ignored.

Many netizens also drew attention to the couple’s recent spiritual visit. One user commented, “What is the point of visiting Premanand Ji if one continues to carry so much ego and attitude even after leaving that place? Ignoring a disabled child who just wanted a photo is heartbreaking.”

Another wrote, “He lost all my respect today,” while a third sarcastically remarked, “Itna attitude Messi ka bhi nahi hai.”

Mixed reactions and celebrity pressure

While criticism dominated the discussion, some users attempted to defend the couple, pointing out issues of security, privacy, and constant public scrutiny faced by celebrities. However, these voices were largely drowned out by those who felt the situation could have been handled with more compassion.

Public figures, especially those as influential as Kohli and Sharma, often face heightened expectations around behaviour in public spaces, particularly when interactions involve children or persons with disabilities.

No official response yet

As of now, neither Virat Kohli nor Anushka Sharma has issued a statement responding to the backlash. The video continues to circulate widely, fuelling debate around celebrity accountability, empathy, and the balance between personal boundaries and public responsibility.

The episode has once again highlighted how brief public moments can spark intense conversations in the age of viral videos, especially when emotions and expectations collide.
